Deepika Padukone Defends Senior Actress

Deepika Padukone doesn’t take anything lying down. She has decided that she’s going to raise her pretty head high and strong and take on any slanderous or negative stuff against her. But that’s not all — like some vigilante from a Death Wish series, she’s going to run down anyone picking on anybody she’s fond of too. Recently, when an article said something derogatory about Madhuri Dixit, and Kajol, Lady Dee spouted fire and brimstone.
And she took up the issue in front of many media cameras at a Press do, ZOOM of course, got the best bytes, with the 20-something Deepika taking up for her idols and calmly shooting from the lip, “I have grown up watching Madhuri Dixit, she is like a legend to me and one of the finest our industry has seen. And Kajol has always been my favourite and she is still doing films with the best banners. It’s not fair to say that they are seniors.
A producer will still cast according to talent. Just because I’m younger, it doesn’t make me any more or less talented”, she said, smiling at the cameras. Righto Deeps. You’re ‘deeper’ than we thought. Now hopefully Kadz and Madhuri will stand up for this fiery gal! But we do wonder why she was so angry… and so pro the seniors? After all, she also calls Katrina Kaif her ‘senior’ actress, now doesn’t she? Hee hee. Ek teer se do do shikaar, haan Deepika?
Freida Pinto and Dev Patel Caught Kissing

A real-life relationship for Slumdog Millionaire lovebirds Dev Patel and Freida Pinto seems to be blossoming after the couple was spotted kissing during a romantic night out in Israel.
The actors — who played childhood sweethearts in the Oscar-winning movie — have frequently dismissed rumours that they are dating for real, even after Slumdog co-star Anil Kapoor hinted they were an item. Kapoor, who played a corrupt gameshow host in the film, is reported to have recently said, “When I meet them I feel there is something happening. I think this is the beginning of something exciting happening. They definitely make a great pair. Both of them look very good together.” His comments prompted Freida, 24, to insist, “We’re not dating,” while 18-yearold Patel added, “No, we’re not seeing each other.” But the British teenager recently jetted to Tel Aviv, Israel, to visit Pinto on the set of her new movie Miral, and the pair was later spotted enjoying a few tender moments during a romantic dinner.
Kareena Postpones Shoot for Mom

Kareena Kapoor was to leave for a month-long shoot to New York this week with Saif Ali Khan, but she postponed the trip to celebrate her mother’s birthday with the family in Mumbai. The couple was to leave for New York to shoot for Rensil D’Silva’s film, but they opted for a sudden change as the day happened to be Bebo’s mother, Babita’s birthday. The shoot was postponed for a day. Though Babita insisted that Kareena’s work should not suffer, Bebo decided to celebrate the special day and arranged a small family get-together. The party was arranged in Mumbai at Kareena’s swanky new place in Bandra. It was just family for my mom. That’s the way she likes it. That’s the way I wanted it to be. Yes, my dad was there too. And of course Saif. He’s very much a part of the family,’’ Kareena said. Reluctant to reveal any further details, she said: ‘‘My mom is my world. I’d do anything for her. Postponing mine and Saif’s trip to New York was nothing. What did I give my mom was my time and my love. That’s all that she wants.’

Deepika Padukone wakes up as early as 6 am everyday. No, she doesn’t go jogging to beau Ranbir Kapoor’s bungalow which is next door. Instead, she heads for the garden in her building and begins her fitness routine that includes yoga, free-hand exercises, et al.
Her neighbours were initially curious about her everyday routine. But hardly anyone joined her. However, after seeing how diligent the gorgeous actress is about her fitness routine many of the neighbours have now started joining her. Deepika, who loves the outdoors and is a keen sports enthusiast thanks to her dad badminton champ Prakash Padukone, is now the envy and the pride of the Pali Hill neighbourhood in Mumbai because of her hour-glass figure. Way to go girl!

Preity Zinta who’s in South Africa with her cricket team is cool as a cucumber most of the time. But when people whom she barely even knows get familiar with her, she finds it hard to take. Though she’s most charming, sweet and often genteel with fans, Zinta likes to keep a wee bit of distance.
She tells us, “I am fine with people posing with me for pictures, but what I don’t like is when some put their hand around my waist or shoulders! When you don’t know someone too well, it gets awkward and this is something I just don’t like.” So next time you try to put your arm around this lady, remember touching is touché.
Saif has no problems with Kareena’s sexy dress

Only recently we heard that Saif Ali Khan was fuming with Kareena Kapoor. Reason? Her skin show act in Kambakkht Ishq has rubbed him off the wrong way, apparently. After all, he recently went on record to say how Bebo is already considered ‘Choti Begum’ in the Pataudi household.
Then there was talk about Kareena opting to wear only saris, given that Saifoo had sweetly bestowed upon her the ‘begum’ tag. The anti-climax? Soon Kareena will be in your face donning sexy swimwear. But the truth is that Saif has absolutely no problem with his girl looking hot-n-sexy. A unit member of the film claims, “Saif came to Los Angeles, when Kareena was to shoot with Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards.
She was sexily dressed and Saif didn’t seem to mind. Instead he came on the sets and whistled whenever he saw her. He also told co-star Akshay Kumar and Sajid Nadiadwala ‘What to do? I really feel like whistling everytime I see her’.”

Never mind catching a tan, the sexy Bollywood actress is all for it, “My skin’s fair so a tinge of pink looks nice,” she says. “What’s more important, chilling out if you’re forced to stay on in Mumbai during the summer or worrying about sun burn?” We agree. Model Shahwar Ali also hits the pool daily in addition to increasing his intake of fresh fruits and greens. “I drink lots of fluids. That keeps dehydration at bay,” he says. Model Nethra Raghuraman is another water baby. “Swimming’s the perfect way to stay fit and keep cool,” she says. Chak De! girl Vidya Malavade indulges in gallons of fresh fruit juices. “I remain indoors in the afternoons and catch up on movies I haven’t seen. Going out in the evenings, I wear whites and linens. The very idea of comfortable clothing beats the heat.” While singer and TV anchor Raagheshwari Loomba relies on tender coconut. “There are times I feel like pouring it on my head to cool down,” she laughs.
Adman Prahlad Kakar has given up his traditional headgear and attire for a lungi and kurta. Thinking of the hills is very cooling to his mind. Theatre and television actress Juhi Babbar turns to sunscreen “applied twice daily” and cottons and whites. “And I don’t inch towards the pool for fear of a tan,” she shudders. Designers Manish Malhotra, Neeta Lulla and Nikasha Tawadey suggest, and wear, cool cotton fabrics. And Balika Vadhu lady Smita Bansal fantasises about holidays she cannot take. “The idea itself is soothing but with so much work in hand, I can just wear cottons and stay hydrated,” she grumbles.
Links between Sonam Kapoor and Vikas Naulaka

Sonam Kapoor, that lively powerhouse of talent, is said to have a good friend in cinematographer Vikas Naulaka. According to reports, Vikas — who is one of the most hotshot and sought after cinematographers today — will be shooting Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh with Ranbir Kapoor playing a turbantor. Rumours also say that Vikas, who has honed his skills in Los Angeles, will reportedly be paid a whopping Rs 1.25 crores as his fee for handling the camera.
In other words, this guy is a technician all of Bollywood is excited about. And, how did Sonam and Ranbir meet this elusive guy? Sources say Vikas was an assistant, just like Sonam and Ranbir were, to Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black. Quizzed about her ‘friendship’ with Vikas, Sonam dismissed talk saying, “ It’s ridiculous, where do you guys get your information from?” Vikas too went mum when asked of his friendship with the girl, who is a now a big star and a firebrand actress.

Remember, it was in BB that you read about Neha Dhupia reportedly declaring herself as the leading lady of Slumdog Millionaire producers new upcoming three part series My Bollywood Hero. Ever since then, a ‘war’ seems to have erupted which is promising to create more dust in the coming days. And the controversy refuses to die down! Now, the actual leading heroine of the movie Pooja Kumar, a New York based Indian actress (she was the New York Miss India) is crying foul and pronounced Neha’s claim as ‘no-ball’. Pooja is starring opposite famous Hollywood comedian Chris Katten (of Saturday Night Live fame). The film is based on Indian film industry and has a host of other Indian stars including Neha Dhupia in a cameo.
Pooja Kumar, who plays Chris Katten’s love interest in the movie, is all excited about being a part of this three episode series but is shocked the way Neha went about town saying she’s playing the leading role in the movie. “I’m the lead heroine of the movie. But, after reading Neha’s interview we felt shell-shocked. This is ethically wrong,” said Pooja keeping her cool prior to her departure for New York after the movie’s shooting in Mumbai recently. “But despite the controversy, I have high regard for Neha. She’s a brilliant actress and a good human being,” she added.
The series is about Chris whose ambition is to be an actor as he is tired with his comic image and tries his luck in a Bollywood film. “As for my role, I come in when Chris comes to Mumbai and lands a role in a Bollywood film, I am the director of the film he is starring in. Later on we fall in love,” Pooja said.
Neha Dhupia, the only big Bollywood name in the series, is not amused at being dragged into this controversy. The actress says it was clearly the idea of the international producers to announce her name in the publicity first; and she fails to understand why all the girls in the series have been ‘attacking’ her’
Chris Katten also spoke to us and said, “Neha is a very dignified lady. She is the one who is the best known in India. And, while shooting with her, it was decided that the publicity would focus on her initially because she is the famous one.” Katten also fails to understand the fuss behind this whole fracas; and so do his producers.

Age controls the days and the nights of the entertainment world.’’ Facts that corroborate the theory that in showbiz, the younger the better, come from recent study that show that Aishwarya lost three endorsements — for a jewellery line, a soap and a doll to Katrina Kaif; Kareena is the reigning Bollywood queen; Priyanka is the preferred actress when the role needs “histrionics’’; Deepika looks good with Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Akshay Kumar wants to team up with Jiah Khan; Shahid Kapoor wishes to serenade Genelia; Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan prefer Asin over Ameesha Patel; and, Abhishek Bachchan wants to share screen space with Sonam. So in this fast changing scenario, where do the 90s’ beauties like Rani/Preity/Shilpa Shetty/Ameesha fit in?
Trade writer Vinod Mirani says, “They’re considered for the occasional meaty role, but with the production numbers having gone down, the roles have dried up for the older lot. The heroes well into their 40s invariably ask their producers to get them younger heroines.’’ A filmmaker adds, “In Bollywood, the heroines are absolutely inter-changeable; switching Deepika with Katrina makes no difference to a project.’’ So 43-year-old Salman will team up with 20-something Sonakshi Sinha (daughter of Shatrughan Sinha); Akshay Kumar (41) wants Jiah (21) in his film Housefull; and Aamir Khan (44) is definitely gung-ho about romancing Asin (25). Even Shah Rukh (43) made the perfect pair with Anoushka (22). Of course, in the next round, the bar will be pushed down further, and the reigning Bollywood stars will definitely make a play for the new teenager on the block. When Amitabh Bachchan romanced Shilpa Shetty in Lal Badshah, one of his older leading ladies had joked, “Amitji is learning to change nappies; next he will be romancing Baby Guddu on screen.’’
