Apart from creating the robot, Baweja will also construct a set of Mumbai which will depict the city as it would probably look in 2050. The characters will be shown living in the future. If the buzz is to be believed, the budget of the film is an extravagant $10 million.

Aamir Khan looking for a naughty boy
June 30, 2006
Aamir Khan has been a busy man lately. Apart from two of his movies, Rang De Basanti and Fanaa, hitting theatres this year, he is also venturing into production. Although his new film is still untitled, it is based on the relationship between a father and his dyslexic son. It is to be directed by painter-turned-director, Amole Gupte. Aamir Khan wants to make sure that his casting is just perfect.
His production house has even put up a poster at a bookstore in Bandra which states, “Wanted Actor! A very naughty boy!” It goes on to say that if the boy is a bundle of mischief, he should drop his photos at Khan’s office. Let’s hope that Aamir’s search for a naughty boy yields some positive results.
Customs department behind Shahid Kapoor
June 30, 2006
With lots of World concerts comes a lot of money. No wonder, Shahid Kapoor is on shopping spree these days. The actor also threw a house-warming party for his plush new apartment where bubbly Kareena played the perfect host.
But with lots of money also come the lots of troubles.
Yesterday, Shahid appeared before the customs department here to record his statement in regard to alleged tax duty evasion on his imported car.
The actor, who was summoned last week to appear in person, appeared today at the customs collectorate in south Mumbai and gave his statement, officials said but refused to disclose what he had stated.
The customs had seized Kapoor’s imported car recently and had returned it back to the actor after he has given an undertaking to furnish all details of the payment made by him.
Earlier, the actors who have come under the customs scanner for alleged tax duty evasion on imported car are Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan and Suniel Shetty.
All three of them have given statements to the customs authorities and disclosed the mode of their payment.
No newcomer is around to oust me
June 30, 2006
We never had any doubts about it but for rest of the sceptics, Shah Rukh made it amply clear in an interview to a leading daily that he is the King Khan and there is hardly any chance of him being overthrown in the near future.
He further added, “No newcomer is around to oust me,’’ said Khan. “I’m the Ronaldinho of acting. I’ll be there for another five to six years then maybe you can think of some other actor. Many magazines call me the icon of the country. The fact is I’m blessed, it has been a charmed life.’’
But was it always that rosy for the actor? Unlike most of Indian megastars SRK first appeared in some television series before he went on to try his luck in the film industry.
He won millions of hearts with his roles and the Indian viewers hold him in great awe, so much so that he is regularly rated as the country’s top actor in polls by movie media.
Now Shah Rukh is slated to make his come back in Director Shimit Amin’s ‘Chuk De India’ where he plays a girl’s hockey team coach.
After Rakhi Sawant, Shilpa Shetty goes to NCW
June 30, 2006
Faced with an obscenity suit, film star Shilpa Shetty approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) seeking its intervention in the matter even as the women’s panel said it was evolving a code for tackling indecency in films and other media.
Shetty, who is currently shooting in Bangkok, through a representative submitted a memorandum to NCW chairperson Girija Vyas seeking ‘moral support’.
In response, the NCW said it wrong on part of the Tamil tabloid Murasu to publish Shetty’s photo, which has landed her in soup, without her consent.
“It is unfair to use pictures of stars without their consent. Shetty has been involved with social causes like aids and women’s issues and it is wrong to tarnish her image,” Vyas said.
She also said the NCW was evolving a code to be issued to the Censor Board for preventing indecent representation of women in films, TV and advertisements.
Shetty argued that the picture of her’s that appeared in the tabloid was a still frame from a film starring her and was carried without her consent.
She stated that the Kannada film Auto Shankar co-starring southern star Upendra, from which the freeze frame was taken, had been cleared by the Censor Board.
“How can someone hold an actor responsible for something which has been passed by the censors,” Shetty’s spokesman Dale Bhagwagar said, clarifying she had not posed for the photo.
He said the advocate who has filed the case in a Madurai court should take up the matter with the Censor Board or the producers of the movie instead.
He also termed as untrue reports that Shetty had been summoned by the court and was issued a non-bailable warrant.
Mean while National Commission of Women (NCW) chair Girija Vyas on Thursday rubbished the obscenity case against actress Shilpa.
“When the Censor Board has cleared her film for public viewing, where does the question of obscenity arise?” Vyas wondered.
According to Vyas, “(censor board chief) Sharmila Tagore should also come out in Shilpa’s support. In fact, all self-respecting women of India should speak up for her”.
John Abraham and Bipasha break off
June 30, 2006
While John and Bipasha continue to deny rumours of their split, according to a source the couple seems to be having some serious problems.
According to the latest buzz the cracks began appearing in their relationship since April when John was shooting in Afghanistan for his film Kabul Express.
At that time Bipasha was shooting in Rio for Dhoom 2. She was very disturbed and everyone thought that it was because it was beacuse of John.
Says a close source “One day after having a conversation with John over the phone, the bong actress simply broke down and began weeping profusely. She confided in Abhishek Bachchan with whom she shares a close friendship.”
As Abhishek also shares a good rapport with John he did call him up to sort things out. In fact, Ash too felt bad for Bipasha.
However recently when the actor took off for a month long tour on a worldwide concert, he barely called Bipasha. Whenever Bips questioned him for not calling her, he would give the excuse of not being able to get through.
Rumour has it that John was going out with another pretty lass quite often while on the tour.
Recently too it was claimed that John and Bips had a huge public argument after which both of them have not spoken to the other. But John has denied the rumours of their break up and Bipasha too refuses to comment on such rumours.
Bollywood Babe Kareena Kapoor down with viral fever
June 30, 2006
Kareena’s head is pounding. And it’s not because of all the music that she and Shahid Kapoor have been dancing to during the live concerts all over the world.
“I’m down with a terrible viral fever,” she groans. “But I’ve to leave for Malaysia for Don. Farhan Akhtar’s team is waiting for me. I had to give the IIFA a skip because of the stint in Malaysia. It’s just a two-day shoot and then I’m done.
It’s always a pleasure to work with Shah Rukh. You know, I’ve always been a SRK fan. What we did together in Ashoka can never be repeated. I loved doing the Yeh mera dil song with Shah Rukh in Don. Very soon we’ll be doing another full-fledged film together.”
For now in her next project it’s John Abraham who will star opposite Kareena. “It’s Soham Shah’s film for Karan Johar. I’m excited about this because it’s my return to Karan’s banner after K3G. Sure, a lot of water has flown under the bridge.
And yes, we had a difference of opinion because of which I lost Kal Ho Na Ho. But these are things of the past. Must we go on and on about them? We start this new Soham project in November.”
Soham’s film will offer Kareena an entirely new co-star in John. “Where are the really exciting co-stars for me, yaar?” she mock-groans and then affectionately looks at Shahid Kapoor who’s with her. “Shahid and I had such a blast during the concert tours.
We shopped till we dropped. We came back to Mumbai with ten suitcases. The customs guys at the airport looked at us as though we had lost it. Shahid and I also took time off to visit my aunt in Detroit. You could say it was our family visit together.”
The comfort level with Shahid is so high and so constant you wonder when they’re making it legal. “Let him work for a while. I also have so much to do. I feel I’m just starting out. I can’t tell you how excited I am about Omkara.
The director Vishal Bhadrawaj and I have have formed a mutual admiration society. We’ve made a pact. I’m going to feature in every single film of his. And if I don’t fit into a film of his, he’s just not going to make it, as simple as that.”
Kareena surely has come a long way. From a girl who before the release of her first Refugee told me she wants to remain in salwar-kameez all her life and be another Madhubala, to the va-va-voom diva in K3G to again the simple salwar-kameez gal in her latest film Chup Chup Ke.
Chuckles Kareena, “My role in Chup Chup Ke was short, but it was sweet. I liked the simplicity of the girl I played. I’m basically a simple girl in real life. It’s showbiz which changed me into this glam-girl. Not that I’m complaining. How many people can claim to be where I am?”
At the moment Kareena is just happy taking it easy until Soham’s film for Karan Johar starts.
“I think Omkara will be a new beginning for me as an actress. Everyone connected with the film will benefit. So will I.”
