Bollywood Babes Esha Deol and Amrita Rao together again
February 27, 2006
Esha may be in some kind of a secret affair with Amrita Rao. Remember how Esha slapped Amrita Rao during one of the shoots in Bangkok? Now Esha is ecstatic about Amrita. She did not forget about the slap but says she learnt a lot of acting from Amrita.
Rumor zone has it that these two bombshells are falling for each other – this time in the shoot of movie Pyare Mohan. They are seen together talking their heart out. In public they both say they do not like each other – well that is obvious!
Aftaab shhh over affair with Hot Bollywood Babe Yana Gupta
February 26, 2006
Last year was not so good for Aftab Shivdasani but this year he will be seen in many films – RGV’s Darwaza Bandh Rako, Vikram Bhatt’s Ankahee, Subhash Ghai’s Shaadi Se Pehle, Speed and other projects. His love life with Yana Gupta is flourishing equally but Aftab prefers to be reserved about his latest love.
I am not the kind of person to talk about my personal life in public. Often my reticence is interpreted as snootiness, but I guess people who label me don’t really know me. I am comfortable this way and will continue to be so. I don’t think that I need to scream from a rooftop confessing my love. Yana is special to me and we both respect our privacy.”
About his plans of turning producer the actor call them rumours.
By god’s grace I am still getting good offers and I am not in a hurry to launch my production house. It is too early to talk about it. I read this news on some website and I feel they should have at least verified it.
The actor has also signed a couple of promising films like Glen and Ankush’s science fiction Joker and Vikram Bhatt’s Red with Celina Jaitely.
Taxi No.9211
February 26, 2006
Language:HINDI
Director:Milan Luthria
Producer:Ramesh Sippy
Cast: Nana Patekar, John Abraham, Ritesh Deshmukh, Sameera Reddy, Sonali Kulkarni, Kurush Deboo, Shivaji Satam
Music: Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani
Lyrics: Vishal Dadlani, Dev Kohli
Cinematography: Vijay Karthik
Editing: Aarif Shaikh
When director Milan Luthria went to Nana Patekar to sign him for the movie Taxi No 9211, Nana was in a shooting range in Mumbai practicing rifle shooting. ”Please cast me differently”, was the only request Nana made while agreeing to be a part of the movie in minutes. Though Apaharan and Bluffmaster were both successes, probably he was tired of doing the same psychopathic villain roles again and again.
Milan Luhtria did exactly what the quirky actor had requested all the while preserving the quintessential Nana. And we have Nana Patekar as the hero in the movie Taxi No 9211. The acerbic tongue and the brusque mannerisms are still there, so also the mild maniacal shade to the character, but now its all part of an essentially good character.
Nana Patekar as Raghav Sastry essays the role of a really bitter and aggressive taxi driver who is struggling to make ends meet in the ruthless city of Mumbai, to perfection. No other actor could have portrayed better the angst and frustrations of a Mumbai taxi driver who looses everything in a day.
John Abraham, who is Jay Mittal in the movie, measures up to the role of a scion to a property of 300 crores, provided that he can prove it in a court of law. Spoilt, arrogant, irresponsible and extravagant are the traits of Jay Mittal. John Abraham slips in to these masks so swiftly that you don’t see John on the screen but, Jay Mittal.
The spoilt and arrogant brat rides the cab of the quirky and blunt taxi driver on a fateful day. The former wants to make a few quick bucks and the later wants to lay claim to his 300 crores. Thus begins the roller coaster ride of action, revenge and humor at unlikely places.
Sameera Reddy as the fair weather girlfriend of John gets a song to show that she has the right curves at the right places. Sonali Kulkarni looks pretty much a taxi driver’s wife who has tolerated a husband who has changed 23 jobs in 15 years and yet finds it difficult to pay the bills.
Ramesh Sippy who has given blockbusters like Sholay and hits like Andaaz, Seeta Aur Geeta, Shaan and Shakti has given a free hand to Milan Luthria in direction. Taxi No 9211 is going to make up for the earlier failures of Milan Luthria like Deewar. The movie will establish him as a credible director. He has done a good job in showing the simmering hatred that exists between the Mumbai’s haves and have-nots mixing it well with the foot tapping music and fairly hummable songs.
Once Nana had signed a movie with Ramesh Sippy that got cancelled due to some reason. But Ramesh Sippy did not accept the signing amount check back from Nana. Its unclear how much he is paid for Taxi No 9211 but he has more than compensated the Sippys, this includes their earlier signing amount check for the movie that didn’t happen. Nana, John and others with their brilliant real life like performances assure you an enjoyable movie in Taxi No 9211. Go, watch it.
Screenplay: Manoj Tyagi

No more Love Story for Kareena Kapoor
February 26, 2006
Director Harry Baweja has a unique way of saying that he has parted ways with his stars. He has personally sent a contract letter to say that he and Kareena Kapoor have parted ways and the actress is no longer doing his next film Love Story 2050.
The film is a science fiction flick and required bulk dates. Since Kareena is already busy with Farhan Akhtar’s Don and Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara, she could not give the director bulk dates. It is also heard that Kareena has returned the Rs 3 crores she took as a signing amount for the film.
Bebo was signed two years ago to play the romantic lead opposite Harman and now after waiting for such along time, she has decided to opt out of the film.
“I don’t have dates available, any more,” she says. “Harry Baweja delayed the film for two years. Besides, he wants to make a sci-fi for which he needs bulk dates from me. But I can’t afford to give bulk dates now as I have already committed my dates to Vishal Bharadwaj and to Farhan Akhtar, for Don. There’s no bad blood between us and we are still friends.”
So will she be acting in any of Baweja’s future projects? “Oh yes. I have promised him that if I like the script and if I have dates available then I shall certainly work with them again,” she says.
Insiders believe that Priyanka Chopra will now replace Kareena in the film.

Bollywood Babes working in Hollywood Movies
February 24, 2006

Some of Bollywood’s most stunning women are fast swooshing to foreign film sets, and not just for filming songs.
Here’s a look at four who are starring in upcoming international film projects:
Shilpa Shetty
Bollywood’s most bodalicious, if reports are to be believed, may be headed to the hottest project of all. Babel stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal. But that’s not the big deal.
The big deal is it being directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the man behind the pathbreaking Amores Perros and 21 Grams. Co-written by Inarritu and his long-time collaborator Guillermo Arriaga, the film is about the lives of four strangers in three continents.
Shilpa is slated to play the Indian, Sameera Bakshi. Mahima Chaudhury may play her sister, Sonia.

Aishwarya Rai
If you thought the last year saw a lot of foreign press for Ash, that was just a media blitz to toss her into the eyes of international casting directors.
The result? Doug Lefler’s The Last Legion, with Colin Firth and Sir Ben Kingsley; Colin Serrau’s Chaos, with Meryl Streep; and Roland Joffé’s Singularity, with Brendan Fraser.
Her Indo-foreign films include Jag Mundhra’s Provoked, with Naveen Andrews and Nandita Das, and Paul Berges’ Mistress Of Spices (left) with Dylan McDermott and Ayesha Dharker.
Phew!

Sameera Reddy
After a fantastic performance as a middle-class Bengali housewife in Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Kaalpurush, Sameera sure is making waves.
The Musafir girl has been offered the lead role of Nazneen in Sarah Gavron’s adaptation of Monica Ali’s bestselling novel, Brick Lane. The protagonist, like the novelist, is of Bangladeshi descent.
The film sounds like a terrific project, but commitments back home might just prevent Sameera from snapping it up. Nothing has been signed yet, but we can hope.

Nandana Sen
This one’s doing more international stuff than desi.
First up, she stars in Willard Carrol’s musical romance, Marigold, which also happens to be Salman Khan’s Hollywood debut.
Then, there’s Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad’s crossover It’s A Mismatch, with Boman Irani; Oscar-nominee Ashvin Kumar’s thriller Forest, with Javed Jaffery and produced by Richard Dreyfus; and Rockin Meera, an American film that pits the actress into the world of hip-hop.
It’s a big, intriguing list, with our actresses signing up quite a few interesting projects. Let’s hope we get to see them soon.
Sameera Reddy speaks about Taxi No 9 2 11
February 24, 2006

After a glamorous phase in movies like Musafir and Darna Mana Hai, Sameera Reddy has moved on to ‘meaningful’ cinema. Her Kaalpurush, directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, has already become a favourite on the festival circuit.
Her next release is the unusually-titled Taxi No 9 2 11, directed by Milan Luthria, starring John Abraham and Nana Patekar.

Taxi No 9 2 11 depicts this wonderful chemistry between Nana Patekar and John. They play the Tom and Jerry characters with gusto. It is a fast-paced thriller with emotional undertones.
I play a city girl who is John’s girlfriend. We have been paired for the first time and the chemistry on screen is great. We had a lot of fun at his expense during the dance sequence. He took some time to get the steps right. Every time he messed up, he would flash his dimpled smile, and we would break into laughter.
John is unique and unpredictable. He has a spring in his feet and is, at times, outrageous. But he is genuine, and fun to work with. He is so himself that, at times, one feels an awkward affection for him. We have a love for bikes in common.

I was working with an MNC as a marketing executive. During these days, I worked on a celebrity campaign with Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan and wondered why I couldn’t be a star myself. I changed tracks soon after that. The rest, as they say, is history.
I owe my first appearance on screen to Pankaj Udhas, and his music video for the track Ahista kijiye battein. I am a trained Kathak dancer, but I love dancing to hip-hop, R&B and rap too. Dancing helps when you are getting into the industry.
I learnt professional range shooting when I was in Los Angeles. I love shooting cans. It’s a great stress buster. I am also a die-hard gadget freak. My father is tired of my obsession with the latest iPods. I am completely addicted to music, and love lounge music.

Lately, I have been collecting things in the shape of turtles. I have a huge collection and my mom, sister and friends keep adding to it.
With the crazy lives we live, my sisters and I don’t get much time for each other. For New Year, Sushma and I went to Greece to spend time with Meghana. As the youngest, I am the most pampered. We share an amazing bond between us.
I love travelling. I have just returned from Turkey and, whenever I get the time, I like going to a new destination. It gives me a great high.
I am involved with an NGO called Crayons and am sponsoring a child through them. I believe in causes related to children. They are the future of any nation.

As for my forthcoming projects, I am doing the Timangshu Dhulia-directed Gulami, where I play Irfan Khan’s sister, a dacoit, who falls in love with Sunny Deol. Irfan and I rebel against the British rule in India.
I also have Anees Bamzi’s Benaam with Ajay Devgan, and Sachin Bajaj’s Naqsha with Vivek Oberoi. Then, there is Ahmed Khan’s Fool & Final with Sharmila Tagore, Sunny, Shahid Kapur and Vivek Oberoi.
Kaalpurush has garnered great responses and I am told it will soon be released.
Neha Dhupia had chicken pox all over her body
February 23, 2006
No one can understand the importance of face but an actor. Especially for an actress, when it’s a matter of her career. Actress Neha Dhupia went through the same phase where she was scared of losing her beauty.
When she was on the shoot for her forthcoming movie Teesri Aankh at Hyderabad, Neha suddenly realized that she was unwell. The doctors advised her bedrest. She had to rush back home. “I was so unwell that it was not possible for me to shoot. I discovered chicken pox all over my body and on my face too. I was feeling bad that the unit went to Hyderabad for shoot but since I was not well Harry Baweja was not able to shoot. He had to stop shooting when I rushed back home. But being a very co-operative producer he never cut my scenes”, she said.
However, the movie Teesri Aankh also stars Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel who will be seen together after their super hit film Gadar. Neha who plays the lead role in the movie is glad by the fact that director Harry Bawaja made sure that she could shoot her scenes again. According to her when she was scared of loosing her charm her mother helped her through home remedies. Neha reminisces “I was scared when I saw chicken pox on my face. I was hoping that I don’t have any scars on my face. My mother looked after me and her home remedies helped me to recover fast. For an actress face is much important. It was God’s grace that I came out of it really well.”
Kareena Kapoor Out of Love Story 2050
February 23, 2006
Kareena Kapoor who was supposed to star opposite Harman Baweja, in his debut Love Story 2050, is not a part of the film, anymore. The film was announced two years ago and Kareena was reportedly paid a cool Rs. 3 crores for the film!
Kareena cited the standard ‘no dates’ reason for her departure from the film. It’s a sci-fi film and she would have to give bulk dates to the project. Giving bulk dates was not possible for her as she was busy with Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara and Farhan Akhtar’s Don. However, she maintains that they parted on a good note and she is open to doing another film with him, provided she has the dates.
If sources are to be believed, Priyanka Chopra will be replacing Kareena in the film. And to refresh your memory, Harman and Priyanka were romantically linked, just some time back. It remains to be seen how this off screen chemistry will translate on screen!
