Mallika and Karan to host Zee Cine Awards

Mallika Sherawat has been shying away from the media since some time now. But she will be back soon in all her glory at the Zee Cinema Awards, to be held in Mauritius. The organizers have managed to rope in the actress, known for her oomph to compere the awards function, along with director Karan Johar. Some other celebrity presenters at the event include Arjun Rampal and Gulshan Grover.
The awards function promises to be one starry affair with the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan. Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji and Priyanka Chopra performing! It might be recalled that Ms. Sherawat was always a hot topic of discussion on Karan Johar’s celebrity talk show. And with the two teaming up for this event, it sure is something to look forward to. Did we feel the temperature rise a few notches already?
Zee Network has come up with a big surprise this year. For its 8th LIC Zee Cine Awards, the biggest satellite TV group in India has roped in none other than Mallika Sherawat to host the event.
Accompanying her on stage will be celebrated director Karan Johar. This year the event is being organized in Mauritius on March 4, 2006, at Swami Vivekananda International Convention on the Scenic Island.
Speaking at the launch of LIC Zee Cine Awards 2006, Punit Goenka, Director, Zee Telefilms said “Our focus to take Zee Cine Awards to the international platform is to showcase the best of Indian Cinema to the world. With Zee Cine Awards we will be able to provide the impetus for the crossover of Indian Cinema to global audiences and delight the Indian diaspora with the grandest celebration of Indian cinema.”
LIC Zee Cine Awards 2006 will witness some scintillating performances from the biggest names in bollywood Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Abhisekh Bachchan, John Abraham and Ritiesh Deshmukh.
The gorgeous ladies of Hindi Cinema – Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherji, Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora are all set to enthral the audience and make the evening more grandeur.
Co-presented by Pepsi and Motorola, the LIC Zee Cine Awards 2006 will also be hosted by Arjun Rampal, Konkana Sen Sharma and Gulshan Grover.

Maliaka Arora and Amrita Arora in a Pakistani video

Malaika Arora Khan and sister Amrita have shot for Pakistani singer Waris Baig’s video album titled Tere Bina, directed by Tarun Chopra; Malaika and Amrita feature in different songs.
The sisters asked for the songs, which were duly despatched to them for viewing.
Both liked the music, and sent their consent via Tarun. Shooting for the video took place in the city, at Filmistan Studios.
Talking to HitLIST from Dubai, Amrita revealed, “Tarun was coordinating with us. We did this video for the betterment of Indo-Pak relations.
Plus, it was a privilege to work with Baig, who is just like Adnan Sami in Pakistan, where he has shot many albums with Pakistani film actresses.”
To date, Baig has rendered his voice for more than 200 songs in Pakistani films.
Adds Amrita, “I have a very Indian look in the video — a pink sari, nose ring and lots of bangles.” While Malaika has done many music videos before, this is only Amrita’s second.
Her first video with Zayed Khan, Disco ’82, set to music by DJ Aqeel Ali, was quite a rage.

Those who have seen the Rohan Sippy produced Taxi No. 9211 must have been surprised to see the closing credits mention a certain Ms. Piggychops a.k.a Priyanka Chopra. Chopra was re-christened ‘Piggychops’ by Rohan Sippy and Abhishek Bachchan during the shooting of Bluffmaster. The actress has made a special appearance in Taxi No. 9211 just towards the climax. Apart from working with Sippy in Bluffmaster, she has also worked with John in Harry Baweja’s Karam. And when it was a film involving Rohan and John, she absolutely could not refuse a cameo! All in the name of friendship!
Aamir Khan sues Filmfare for Rs.21 crore

Actor Aamir Khan has sued Filmfare for Rs.21 crore for using his photograph without his permission and attributing false quotes to him. The legal notice was sent to the publishers of the magazine Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd on February 22.
The bone of contention is an advertisement that appeared in the Times of India on February 20 in which the actors photograph was used to promote the Filmfare Awards. The following quote was attributed to him. “I incited a revolt to win her over!” His lawyer stated that Aamir Khan never said the words. He had never given permission to use his photograph to promote the awards function.
In his legal notice to the publication, the actor has demanded a compensation of Rs.21 crore for tarnishing his image. He has also asked Times of India to publish an apology with a week stating that ‘he does not promote or endorse Filmfare or Filmfare Awards.’ When contacted, the legal advisor of the TOI group denied any such reports. According to him, he is not aware of the notice. Aamir Khan on the other hand is presently away in Poland, shooting for Kunal Kohli’s Fanaah.
I like the Girl Next Door Image

Ever since she made her debut opposite Salman Khan with ‘Lucky – No Time For Love’ everyone compares her with the Aishwarya Rai but Sneha asserts that she is not an Aish look-alike.
“When people see a copy of the Taj Mahal, they say it looks like the Taj Mahal, isn’t it? So, that’s an advantage. But when they compare me with Aishwarya, I think they should limit it to the screen, nothing else. I am new to this profession and hence, there is no competition,” asserts Sneha.
However she doesn’t mind her girl next door image.
Says Ullal, “I feel very young and can easily pass off as a girl for a long, long time. Age is on my side, so what’s the problem? I can think of an image makeover later.”
No Harry for Kareena as of now

It was a perfect Love Story – Harry Baweja hatched for his son Harman but fate had its own plans. Over the years the film failed to take off due to several reasons and now film’s female lead Kareena has parted ways with Baweja for good.
But there is no bad blood between the two. The duo even issued a joint statement saying, “Since LOVE STORY 2050 involves intensive special effects and foreign technicians, the dates and their total commitment became a cause of concern between us. There has already been a lot of rescheduling done from both ends. Therefore it is mutually decided in the interest of the film to part ways, amicably.”
Its not that she is inundated with the films right now but Kareena’s style of work has changed a lot over the time. The Kapoor junior is now choosing her work very carefully. The only name that excites her these days is Vishal Bhardwaj’s Othello.
“I’m preparing to play Desdemona right now. I’m growing my hair to an unbelievable length. And the language that I’m required to speak in Vishal’s film…it’s a mix of UP and Bihari. I’ve never done anything like this before,” she tells.
“Right now I’m just chilling out. I’m just not interested in doing the routine kind of naach-gana roles…not when I’ve Othello to look forward to. Can you believe it, I’ve already completed 30 films in five years! That’s a lot. Some of them have been really rewarding. Others…not so rewarding…all part of the game.”
Baweja, however, unlike Kareena is going through his share of troubles at the moment.
As if Love Story troubles were not enough for Harry, angry man Sunny Deol has took up the cudgels against his ‘Teesri Aankh – The Hidden Camera’ producer now.
Deol who has just a fleeting appearance in the film is worried that the viewers who might come to theatres feeling he is the hero in the film, as publicised, will get disappointed for not getting to see enough of him.
“If audiences suddenly find out that I am not the hero, they may be upset and the response to the entire film may be disappointing,” he says.
Baweja fires back saying that Sunny is the hero of his film and he is misleading the audience with his comments. “He is the hero of my film. Yes, the contract does mention that his is a guest appearance. But, practically speaking, it is his film. He is out of the frames only for 25 minutes in the entire film,” he tells.
We must say, apart from his own futuristic flick, future doesn’t look very bright at the moment for the ace director.
Bollywood babe Ayesha Takia confident of getting married

She is deep in love. She would do anything to get him! Her body reacts to every thing he has to offer.
“Yes, I am madly in love with Farhan Azmi. The world seems so beautiful all of a sudden. I am making my love public because I am sure we will tie the knot. Farhaan and I are not just dating. Our relation is much deeper than that. Had I been dating, I would have been like many others who try to cover up their affairs. But I am crazy in love and I can say it with all confidence that Farhan is going to be my life partner,” confesses Takia.
Farhan Azmi is the son of politician Abu Asim Azmi. Like Ayesha, Farhan, too, is in a similar state of affair as her. So, is marriage on the cards for this love struck couple? “You know I am just 20 and I don”t think it is the right age to get married. Even Farhaan is pretty young. He is only 23. So, I think we should wait for at least four to five years. For me, 25 would be the right age to get married,” answers Ayesha.
Even though the actress is much in love, she is working too. Apart from her love life, she talks about the projects that keep her busy. “My next flick, Shaadi Se Pehle, is ready for release. It’s a good comedy film under the direction of Satish Kaushik ji. With a director like him, comedy comes out naturally,” says Ayesha.
Bollywood Babe Diya Mirza in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa

All roads this evening will lead to the Andheri Sports Complex where the two Sa Re Ga Ma Pa finalists Debojit and Vinit will clash for last time.
Bollywood actress Diya Mirza is to co-host the show with Shaan at the Andheri Sports Complex.
Hours before the event, Debojit is calm and collected. “Whatever I’ve achieved where I’ve come is more than enough. I feel the blessings that my mother gave me before her death have borne fruits. This week alone I’ve received 5 lakh votes from my home in Assam. I can’t begin to tell you how confident it makes me feel.
Do I feel nervous or excited about the Grand Finale? No…I’m not thinking of the results at all. I’m thinking only of my singing and how to sing to my best level possible…I’m happy with whatever God has planned for me tomorrow. I’m really excited about singing the song my mentor Ismail Durbar has composed for me. It’s a Sufi gana…very very soulful. And Ranjit Barot has arranged it. I never thought I’d stand in front of so many thousands of people including some of the biggest musicians and stars, and be watched by millions of people at home at such a live event, singing such a beautiful song composed specially for me. It’s a dream come true.”
In contrast Vinit is a portrait of cocky confidence.
“No I’m not nervous. But very excited. We’re rehearsing hard and I’m feeling good about the Finale. I’ve a great line-up of songs for the Grand Finale including One love, Kaal dhamaal, Bhadshah and Chand tare. I also have a duet Just chill with Himani,” he exults. “But the big one for the evening is the song that my mentor Himesh Reshammiya has composed. It’s a soft melodious Indian ballad which mid-way goes into a cool Western interlude. Very challenging to sing.”
When I tell him that the show’s producer-director Gajendra Singh claims they’ve received 4 lakh SMS as audience votes for the two finalists, Vinit stops short to think. “That much, huh? I guess the Grand Finale is much bigger than we thought. Yes, I’m confident of winning.”

There are strong indications that producers Bunty Walia and Jassi Walia’s forthcoming project JUST PUNJABI will star the hottest star pair: Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. That’s not all, the EK AJNABEE producers have also reportedly finalized Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. True?
“The news is partly true,” Bunty Walia informs me, “I have already spoken to Sanju and Abhishek about the project. I have also had a word with Ash; I wouldn’t like to deny that. I would love to have her on board. But we’ve yet to sign on the dotted line,” the enterprising producer clarifies.
What about John and Bipasha? “I don’t know how this news originated. It’s not true at all. Yes, there’s a third hero in the film, but no one has been confirmed yet,” Bunty states. Apoorva Lakhia, who directed EK AJNABEE for the producers, will direct JUST PUNJABI as well. “Apu [Lakhia] is still working on the script,” he adds.
JUST PUNJABI is expected to take off next year.
